Despite its capital cost being higher than diesel generator or battery inverter, solar rooftop systems are any day cost-effective as they operational cost is extremely low. No high fuel cost to run solar PV systems as their abundant and free – solar energy. Besides, they generate a clean and green energy without polluting the atmosphere. Hence their impact on the environment is also positive.

Other than installation cost, solar rooftop systems hardly have any operational or maintenance cost. Typically, an average payback period of a 5 KW solar system can be expected to be four to five years. Given the high lifespan of 25 years of solar rooftop setups, the electricity generated can be considered as free.

A solar heater of capacity 100 litres is suitable for about 4 people and depending on the amount of water usage it can save up to 1500 units of electricity per year. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions besides saving litres of fuel burning and thus saving your money. Higher-capacity solar water heaters will save more electricity.

Solar water heating systems like other solar products have extremely low maintenance requirements. Rare leakages due to wear and tear can easily be repaired by plumbers. In case of scale deposition in the collectors over the years following hard water, solar water heater suppliers should be contacted for cleaning or de-scaling with acids. In case of a broken glass tube, solar heater suppliers should be contacted. The outside surfaces of the solar heating systems should be painted again in every 2-3 years to avoid surface corrosion.
